이용수할머니 文대통령에 호소 편지
이용수 할머니가 문재인 대통령에게 ‘일본군위안부’ 문제를 유엔 고문방지협약(Convention Against TortureㆍCAT) 절차에 회부하자고 간곡히 요청하는 친필(親筆) 서한을 보냈습니다. 이용수 할머니는 25일 직접 청와대 앞까지 가서 서한을 청와대 관계자를 통해 전달했습니다.
이 서한과 함께 경기도 광주 나눔에 집에 있는 강일출(94) 박옥선(97) 두분의 이옥선(94) 이옥선(92) 할머니와 경북 포항에 있는 박필근(94) 할머니의 지지 서명도 전달됐습니다.
당초 이용수 할머니는 위안부 문제를 ICJ(국제사법재판소)에 회부하기 위한 노력을 기울였지만 이를 위해선 한 일 양국의 동의가 필요한 점을 고려, 한국 정부의 단독 회부가 가능한 CAT 절차를 통한 해결을 모색(摸索)해 왔습니다.
CAT는 고문을 비롯해 잔혹하고 비인도적이거나 굴욕적인 대우 및 처벌을 방지하기 위해 1987년 발효된 협약으로 한국은 1995년, 일본은 1999년에 각각 가입했습니다.

Dear President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jeong-sook,
I hope you are well.
The New Year has arrived.
All this time, I have been waiting too long.
I have been waiting for you to take action, and I am sending this letter now because I can wait no longer.
I have seen many presidents come and go,
but President Moon Jae-in has acted to put people first.
I am pleading with a desperate heart.
Please make the decision to refer the “comfort women” issue to the Convention Against Torture.
It is already the eleventh hour, so you must make this decision soon.
I put my trust in you because I know you understand that people always come first.
As I write this letter, I am in tears.
Now that your presidential term is nearly finished, I am sorrowful.
Please, please make the decision to take this to the Convention Against Torture.
I am putting my aching heart before you.
I wish you a Happy New Year and I will pray that God blesses your every endeavor.
