미국 유타주에 사는 9세 남아가 유괴(誘拐)됐다가 스마트시계를 이용해 위기를 모면하는 기지(機智)를 발휘해 화제가 되고 있다.
데일리뉴스 등 미언론은 유타 사라토가에 사는 A군이 LG 스마트시계덕분에 범죄의 희생양을 면한 사실을 보도했다. A군은 9일 오후 7시경(현지시간) 친구 집을 가다 총을 든 괴한에 의해 SUV 차량에 강제로 태워졌다. 차량이 800m 가량 이동하던 중 이 용감한 꼬마는 과감하게 문을 열고 뛰어내렸다. 다행히 별다른 상처를 입지 않고 달아난 그는 손목에 차고 있던 LG 스마트워치를 이용해 아빠에게 연락했다.
A군은 “차가 달리고 있었지만 다시는 가족을 만나지 못할지도 모른다는 생각에 뛰어내리는게 두렵지 않았다”고 말했다. 연락을 받고 쏜살같이 달려온 A군의 아빠는 “아들이 사색(死色)이 되어 떨고 있었다”면서 “위기의 순간에 기지를 발휘해 탈출한 아들이 대견하다”고 말했다.
사라토가 경찰은 A군의 제보를 바탕으로 콧수염을 기르고 가무잡잡한 피부의 용의자와 1990년형 시보레 타호 차량을 수배했다.

Saratoga Springs police looking for alleged kidnapper after boy escapes (KSL-TV)

The boy who lives in the suburbs of Saratoga Springs was grabbed and thrown in a truck by a man with a gun as he walked a short distance from his home to a friend’s home.
“He just picked me up and said, ‘You’re coming with me little boy,’” said the boy as he recounted the ordeal to KSL Utah.
Moments after being taken, the fast-thinking kid unlocked a door and made his escape.
“He was going pretty fast and I hung out the door and jumped out,” said the boy.
He then ran as far as he could, hid behind a grocery store and called his stepfather using his LG Gizmogadget smartwatch.
“By the time I found him he was frantic and scared,” stepfather Jimmy Green said.
Green was grateful that his son kept it together.
"I’m really impressed that he was able to function and keep his wits about him,” said Green.
The stepfather immediately took his son to the police and reported the incident and has praised the timepiece for saving his son's life.
